History of Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital
and the Downtown Veterinary Medical Hospitals Group

The DVM Hospitals group is composed of three, soon to be four, downtown animal hospitals. Dr. Mark Burns opened the Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital (TSAH) in October 1982 at 281 West Broadway   In 1995, Dr. Burns acquired the West Village Veterinary Hospital (WVVH) from its retiring owner, Dr. Susan Siegel, who had been serving the pet care needs of owners in the West Village, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, and Meatpacking District neighborhoods since 1979.  In 1998, the TSAH moved around the corner to its current location at 5 Lispenard Street.  Two years later, on Valentine’s Day 2000, the Battery Park Veterinary Hospital (BPVH) opened it doors as a smaller outpatient animal clinic to serve the large number of existing clients who lived in the rapidly developing Battery Park City area.  In 2008 the WVVH moved from 705 Washington to its current location at 75 Eighth Avenue. (just south of 14th Street).  Here DVM Hospitals was able to offer increased hours and services and open our second 24-hour hospitalized care unit.

Ever evolving to better meet patient needs, there have been a few changes over the years within the DVM Hospitals group.

In 2002, the three practices were placed under the newly named Downtown Veterinary Medical Hospitals, PLLC, banner, which allowed each to hospital to maintain its friendly neighborhood appeal, while centralizing administrative and management services. It also led the way toward developing an electronic medical records system that allows patients’ medical records to be updated instantly at all DVM locations.

In early 2012 DVM Hospitals will open its fourth location, the Seaport Animal Hospital (SAH) at 80 Beekman Street in the courtyard of Southbridge Towers, northeast of the intersection of Fulton and Gold Streets. The SAH will serve the pet care needs of clients living in the FiDi/Financial District and South Street Seaport areas of lower Manhattan.
