Happy New Year!

We all have New Year’s resolutions for ourselves, but what about our pets? We thought that a great way to start off the year for your pet would be to have them on their best behavior. We have invited trainers from Bark Busters to come by and help you out on getting your pets on the right paw. Come by and ask their trainers any behavioral questions that you may have about your pets – it’s absolutely free!

We will have the trainers at our West Village location (212–633-7400) on Jan 17th between 6pm – 8pm & at our Tribeca location (212–925-6100) on Jan 18th between 6pm – 8pm.

Dental Month

Date: March 31, 2011

Location: Battery Park Veterinary Hospital | West Village Veterinary Hospital | Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital

Details:

Last month, we sent you a message about our February Dental Month. This turned out to be a very popular program and we have decided to extend it for another month.

A brief summary…

According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of dental disease by 3 years of age. Home dental care can be effective but is difficult or impossible for most pet owners. Experienced, effective veterinary dental care can be expensive. We see several cases of severe oral disease every month and often have bills exceeding $1000! Even though these cases are challenging, interesting, and rewarding, it is still our goal to detect lesser degrees of dental disease, to detect it earlier, and thus be able to offer simpler, less expensive procedures to our clients before the need for dental x-rays, extractions, and other advanced procedures are needed.

Extending through April 1st we are offering the following:

Scheduled Dental Exam: $65

If a procedure is recommended at the time of the dental exam and you want to proceed (or if a procedure was previously recommended, within the last 6 months, and you are ready to schedule it now) we are offering the following:

Dental Prophylaxis**: $350 up to 30# body weight (100# = $438)

**This fee includes IV fluids, a light level of general anesthesia fully monitored by a staff member dedicated to your pet’s care, dental prophylaxis and polishing, hospitalization, and nursing care. All patients receive IV fluids as well as blood pressure and cardiac monitoring during anesthesia.
We require bloodwork within 3 months of the anesthesia, but can perform blood chemistry in-house on the day of the procedure if this has not been done already.

Pre-Anesthetic Blood Chemistry Panel: $65

If additional pathology is present and your dog or cat actually needs more than just a dental prophylaxis, we offer the following:

Dental X-rays (if needed): 10% discount (was 15% in February)
Extractions & Advanced Care (if needed): 10% discount (was 15% in February)

Pet Dental Month

Date: Feb. 28, 2011

Location: Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital - West Village Veterinary Hospital - Battery Park Veterinary Hospital

Details:

While the snow continues to fall, we at Downtown Veterinary Hospitals are preparing to celebrate Pet Dental Month in February. We wanted to let you know a bit about dental disease and about some special pricing that may help you provide needed care for your dog or cat.

According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of dental disease by 3 years of age. Periodontal disease, which is infection that has worked its way into the sockets of the teeth, is common in cats and dogs, especially smaller breeds of dogs. Additionally, cats commonly develop painful resorptive lesions in the outer layer of their teeth called the enamel. When these and other dental problems are left untreated, infection can damage other organs in the body and can result in serious problems of general health.

Home dental care can be effective but is difficult or impossible for most pet owners. We are more than aware that good effective dental cleaning by a veterinarian can be expensive. Left unchecked though, dental problems can result in multiple extractions of abscessed teeth, the need for endodontic procedures such as root canals, or other restorative procedures; fees are often $1000 or more. It is our goal to detect dental plaque and lower degrees of dental calculus earlier and thus perform simpler, less expensive procedures before the need for dental x-rays and advanced procedures are needed.

From February 1st through March 4th we are offering the following:

Dental Exam by Appointment** $65

Pre-Anesthetic Blood Chemistry Panel $72

Dental Prophylaxis** $350 up to 30# body weight (100# = $438)

Dental X-rays (if needed) 15% discount

Extractions & Advanced Care (if needed) 15% discount

To schedule an appointment, please call your local DVM Hospitals Group facility at…

  • Battery Park Veterinary Hospital 212–786-4444
  • Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital 212–925-6100
  • West Village Veterinary Hospital 212–633-7400

**Effective dental prophylaxis in cats and dogs requires a light level of general anesthesia. All anesthesias are fully monitored by a staff member dedicated to your pet’s well-being. All patients receive IV fluids as well as blood pressure and cardiac monitoring. All advanced dental procedures are performed by one of our experienced staff veterinarians. If your pet has seen one of our vets in the last 6 months and dental care has been advised, there is no need for a Dental Exam. We require a Blood Chemistry Panel prior to any anesthesia. Medications dispensed, if required, are not included.
