The DVM Hospitals group is composed of three downtown animal hospitals. Dr. Mark G. Burns, founder of DVM Hospitals, first launched the Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital at 281 West Broadway in 1982. In 1995, Dr. Burns purchased The West Village Veterinary Hospital, which had been offering veterinary medical services since 1979.This was followed by the opening of The Battery Park Veterinary Hospital in 2000 as a smaller outpatient animal clinic to serve the large number of clients who lived in that rapidly developing area. Just a couple of years later, in 2002, the three animals hospitals were placed under the newly named Downtown Veterinary Medical Hospitals, PLLC, banner, which allowed each to hospital to maintain its friendly neighborhood appeal, while centralizing administrative and management services. It also led the way toward developing an electronic medical records system that allows patients’ medical record to be updated instantly at all three DVM locations.
In 1998, after 15 years in its original location, the Tribeca Soho Animal Hospital moved to its current location at 5 Lispenard Street. In September 2008, we were pleased to move our West Village Veterinary Hospital to its new location at 75 Eighth Avenue (just south of 14th Street). Here DVM Hospitals was able to offer increased hours and services and open our second 24-hour hospitalized care unit. At each DVM Hospital, we are dedicated to serving New York City pets and their owners.
